How to use these Maps

Electorates and Voting

Australia is a representative democracy, which means we elect representatives to make decisions on our behalf.

Voters, once enrolled, elect representatives to each of the three levels of government: Federal, State and Local council.

Use these maps to find the name of your Federal, State and Local council electorates.

Once you have done this, you can enrol to vote, or check your enrolment, for the three levels. You must register to vote for Federal and State/Local council elections separately.

  • State and Local council enrolment

Using the Maps

Every Victorian is represented in State Parliament by 6 Members:

  • 1 Member of the Legislative Assembly, in an electorate called a District
  • 5 Members of the Legislative Council, in a larger electorate called a Region.

Find your State District electorate (Legislative Assembly)

Put your street address, postcode or electorate name into the search box at the top of the page. Your electorate will be shown, marked with a blue pin.

Finding your State Region electorate (Legislative Council)

Once you have found your State District electorate, you can use the layers tool to also show your State Region electorate and Members' Electorate Offices.

If you right-click on your State District electorate, you can find links to the Members for your Region and your District.

Finding your Federal electorate, local council and local council ward

You can also use the layers tool to show your Federal electorate, local council and local council ward. (All councils are divided into a number of smaller areas, called wards, each which is represented by a number of councillors).

Additional map layers can show you how suburbs and postcodes fit into your District, too.

Printing

Printing maps and boundaries is achieved using the button. Only Firefox and Chrome support this feature.

SA1 Boundaries

Right-click on a District to show its SA1 boundaries (small census data blocks).
Zooming in will show the identification number for each SA1.
To print SA1 boundaries, position the required section in the top left corner of the screen.
